Salary: $30 to $45 per hour

Position Description

The Connecticut River Conservancy (CRC) restores and advocates for clean water, healthy habitats, and resilient communities to support a thriving and diverse watershed. We are seeking an experienced Benefits Administrator to oversee employee benefits programs for our growing environmental nonprofit organization.


The Benefits Administrator will manage relationships with benefit providers, administer employee enrollments and terminations, process benefit-related transactions, and serve as a resource for employees by providing guidance on available benefit options.


The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of health insurance and other employee benefit programs, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to communicate complex benefits information clearly and effectively to employees.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Administer employee benefits programs including medical insurance, dental insurance, SIMPLE IRA retirement plan, and Paid Family Medical Leave claims.

  • Process enrollments, terminations, and changes to benefit elections during open enrollment and throughout the year for qualifying life events

  • Coordinate annual open enrollment: update plan materials, configure enrollment windows in the benefits platform, train employees on plan options, and resolve enrollment errors

  • Work with insurance providers to resolve any discrepancies

  • Administer leave programs including FMLA, ADA accommodations, state paid leave laws, and short/long-term disability claims

  • Serve as the primary point of contact to resolve any employee benefit questions

  • Maintain and update employee records as necessary

  • Ensure benefits changes are entered accurately in payroll system

  • Ensure compliance with all legal requirements of benefit programs

  • Administer COBRA elections and manage compliance timelines for qualifying events and premium collection

  • Manage vendor relationships with insurance carriers, SIMPLE IRA recordkeepers, and FSA/HSA custodians

  • Prepare and distribute required plan communications

  • Reconcile monthly carrier invoices against enrollment data; identify and correct discrepancies before payment approval

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Benefits Administrator or similar role in Human Resources

  • Knowledge of various types of insurance plans and benefit options

  • Familiarity with HR databases and HRIS systems

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Salary and Benefits
