About the event

Join Great Meadows Conservation Trust's (GMCT) Paul Woodworth and Connecticut River Conservancy’s (CRC) Amanda Major for a beginner paddle to learn the basics & explore Wethersfield Cove on the Connecticut River in Wethersfield, CT. This area is known as a wonderful recreational resource and has fascinating geologic, ecological, and historical significance. Explore the north side of the Cove and Folly Brook.

This is a beginner paddle. CRC & GMCT will provide participants with a brief kayak skills and water safety lesson. We will then enjoy a beautiful and informative paddle on Wethersfield Cove. We welcome local beginners as well as participants who are seeking to learn and refine the basics of kayaking on an awesome local resource.

This event is oriented toward beginner paddlers. Participants are invited to bring their own canoe or kayak and join us for this trip (PFDs required). CRC has a limited number of single kayaks to borrow through pre-registration, first come first served. Youth paddlers age 16 and up are welcome. Please note that the rental kayaks have a maximum paddler weight capacity of 250lbs. Paddles and life vests are included and required. If you are borrowing a boat, please arrive on time at 10:00am for gear outfitting. (Rental boats provided by Metacomet Canoe and Kayak).

Please contact Tim Lewis if you have any questions or accessibility needs.

Paddling is a physical activity. Please be sure you're prepared for the day with water, food, and any supplies you need as an individual to be successful (including medications you might need, ie: inhalers, EpiPen, insulin, etc). Sunscreen, snacks, and water are highly recommended. Heavy rain or high water cancels.

Pre-Registration is required. For more information contact Tim Lewis: 860-558-4819, info@gmct.org or Amanda Major: amajor@ctriver.org.
