About the event
Scantic River Watershed Basin Management Plan: Streamwalk Training with Save the Sound
Save the Sound is hosting streamwalk training at the Somers Library from 10 AM – 2 PM. Training will be conducted indoors in the Blake Room from 10 – noon, followed by a demonstration and practice streamwalk in the nearby Gulf Stream (tributary of the Scantic River).
If you live in East Windsor, Ellington, Enfield, Somers, South Windsor, or Stafford, this one's for you! The Connecticut River Conservancy, alongside our partners at the University of St. Joseph, Save the Sound, and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP), is developing a Basin Management Plan for the Scantic River Watershed — and we need your help to make it happen.
This event will give you the chance to play a direct role in shaping the future of your local waterways. Streamwalks are a hands-on way to collect valuable data about the health of our streams and rivers — no prior experience required! The morning will begin with an indoor training session, followed by time out on/in the water along a nearby tributary of the Scantic River, the Gulf Stream (approximately .5 mile walk). Stream is accessible via a slope unpaved path. Possibility of poison ivy and poison oak growing along the trail.
It's a great opportunity to learn something new, connect with neighbors, and make a meaningful contribution to the health of our watershed. RSVPs are encouraged so we can plan accordingly — click below to save your spot. We hope to see you there!
