About the event
Join us for a tour of the Blake Higgins dam removal site! CRC is working with local, state, and federal partners to remove the remnant 90-foot-long and 7-foot-high concrete Blake Higgins dam and trapped sediment. This will open more than one mile of prime sea lamprey spawning habitat in the lower Saxtons River, improve water quality, reduce stream temperatures, and increase dissolved oxygen. The project will improve river access for swimming, fishing, and boating via additional work to be done on the adjoining riparian property.
Tour times: 4:30 or 5:30 pm
Tour will be approximately 45 minutes round trip led by Restoration Project Manager, Becky Budd.
Accessibility note: This is an active construction site and access will be steep, rocky, and potentially muddy. This is not a handicap accessible site, and may be difficult for someone who is unsteady on their feet. Those with mobility challenges may still attend to learn about the project from our staff by the road without joining the full tour to the dam.
