Nuclear Power Plant and Thermal Pollution

CRWC is awaiting the court’s ruling on our appeal of Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant’s permit to increase the temperature of the Connecticut River. We believe that increased thermal pollution puts the health of the river’s biological community at risk. Vermont Yankee has the technology to reduce its thermal pollution — cooling towers for this very purpose — but because running them cuts into the nuclear power company’s bottom line they don’t want to use them. They are trying to shave costs at the River’s expense, and that’s not fair. To read more . . . click here.

	"How clean is the river?" is a common question we get. Often times we don't know, because there is no group regularly monitoring the Massachusetts stretch of the river.
